Conclusion:

Looking at the current rates of productivity and efficiency and the improvements that can be made by farmers in coming years with the use of better organisation structures like FPO’s and better sales management like exporting and storing till the right price is available in the market, we have only achieved ~50-60% of our achievable production and value. So certainly, doubling the farmers income is a possibility.

The Future of Agriculture in India

Farms Aggregated into FPO’s

FPO’s operate with Professional Teams

FPO’s Purchase Inputs at Wholesale Prices

FPO’s build Silo’s for Grain Storage

FPO’s build Cold Storage for storing Perishable Produce

FPO’s maximize Profits

FPO’s Export

FPO’s use rented Machinery – Tractors and Harvesters

FPO’s start Vertical Integration and Value Addition (Think SugarCane Growers starting Sugar factories)

Some numbers:

3940 Lakh Acres Under Cultivation

If divided into FPO’s with 500 Acres Each

We will have 7,88,000 FPO’s

Each of them employs a team of 100 salaried people

Then, they employ 7.88 Crore People Directly with a good monthly salary + a percentage profits from the FPO

Assuming each person supports a family of 5,

Thus impacting 39.4 Crore People.

This is without even considering people involved in the agricultural inputs business and in the animal husbandry business – and there is a lot of overlapping here as well.
